Jim retired from the US Air Force in 2007 after 21 years of service. He served in two roles, one in aircraft maintenance and the other in security management. After retiring from the Air Force he got a job at Kennedy Space Center working in the test laboratories eventually managing one of the test laboratories. After the Space Shuttle was retired from service he started his own aerospace company, TYG Aerospace, and had contracts with Lockheed Martin. When sequestration began he lost his contracts at Lockheed Martin, closed the company down and began teaching at Santa Fe College in Gainesville Florida as a professor of Astronomy and Astronautics, where he continues to work today. He recently started another company, Weichold Aerospace & Defense, concentrating on the strategic implications of space and crisis management. He has a Associate of Applied Science in Electronic Engineering from the Community College of the Air Force; a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Mathematics from Washburn University; a Master of Science in Space Studies from the University of North Dakota, and a Masters of Arts in Security Management from the American Military University.
